Candid Shots
It may be hard to convey the personality of your kids if the picture is posed or in a formal setting, especially if the family or kids are used to informal settings. One way to overcome the stiff photo is to find spur of the moment or candid pictures that show your family in the comfort of their natural surroundings. Candid shots of active kids can be hard to prepare for in advance, so be ready with your camera.

You'll notice that my favorite shots used in the Basically Cards card catalog include shots of kids looking up at the camera for a quick candid picture. At times, laughter can be contagious. Be ready with your camera to capture the magical moments when they occur.
Try to find the times where your kids dive into their interests alone or together. If your kids love to read, take a snapshot when they are pouring over a favorite book. If they love art, capture their time at the easel.
Posed Portraits
Posed portraits and professional photographers can document and record preserve a family for history. Light colored clothing will help distinguish the subject from a dark cloth backdrop. Printed photos appear sharper with more light or brighter clothing.
Composition
Cropping and tuning can transform a marginal photo into the perfect photo for your card, however, basic composition tips can also help make your pictures more interesting. Try alternative positions for your subjects. Faces that appear in the top ½ of the shot seem more natural than shots centered on the subject's face. Off center pictures can make an ordinary picture seem interesting.
Basically Cards Difference
Personalized designer attention to your photos sets Basically Cards apart from nearly all online competitors. Sure, there are many photo card printing services online, but few send an email or call if your picture is too dark or blurry. Good photography skills take time to develop. Relying on your personal designer at Basically Cards is something you can enjoy today.
